[LBNA] Rating system for letterboxes

From: RUFIS T BUDSTER (budster2@juno.com) | Date: 2004-07-07 22:38:18 UTC-04:00
To all out there in LB land, Share some thoughts on this idea.

What if we could add another parameter in our Letterbox "value" system,
for finding a particular letterbox:

(Something along these lines)

1) If it takes only a few minutes to find a road side LB , give it a one.
2) If it takes an hour to find, give it a two.
3) If it takes an hour to find , but you've been standing on top of it
(hid really good), give it three points.
4) If the clues are really tough or tricky or requires a lot of attempts
to track it down, give it four points.
5) If you have to work really hard for it, (and burn a lot of calories)
like after climbing a mountain, give it 5 points.

Now along with the total FINDS, PLACES,etc., a value for EFFORT could be
applied to this fun game.

P.S. Wittenberg Mountain LB = 10 points , Hidden Pond 15
points............................

H&H has been using Poison Ivy's rating system and finds that it works just great!

You can do that--people count all sorts of things unrelated to the
standard P and Fs--but I doubt the system will pick up a large
following. Too unnecessary and too complicated.

I think that a rating system for POSTING boxes would be potentially
useful. Some standard so that when you are out with the kids you can
tell if it will work etc. Personally I don't keep real close track of
my own finds,

It definitely would be nice if some of the clues mention how long it takes to find the box.

Some already do but many don't. It wouldn't keep me from doing the longer ones, I would just plan better for when to do them.

For instance, we found one in Indiana that said go to the "duck pond." Up until then all the clues had been a few steps apart and at the park it didn't tell how long to the duck pond. It turned out to be a 2.5 mile loop. It was well paved and easy walking, however we hadn't planned to spend that long. (However, the stamp made it well worth the walk!)

It's just that we might have planned that for when we had more time. There are days when you want to do other things as well and there are days when you have all day for nothing.

Does this make sense?
